Merville, though a "landlocked" barangay because of its lack to a direct natural water source, is regularly affected by floods during the wet season months of August, September and October. The worst case, was at Typhoons Ketsana and Parma (local names: Ondoy and Pepeng, respectfully) when areas near the borders of Moonwalk and Pasay were submerged in water, with floods chest deep.
Below is a list of typhoons and tropical cyclones that have hit Metro Manila (including Manila) in the past years.
Most Destructive Typhoons
Erosional dissection of ash deposits on Pinatubo
Explosive eruption, late June 1991
Another disaster to hit Metro Manila (including Merville) was the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo. The ash from the volcano reached the whole of Luzon, Visayas & parts of Mindanao, and large amounts of aerosol was injected into the stratosphere, spreading the disaster worldwide. The ash falling from the sky created the illusion of snow in Manila, and it also caused terrible asthma attacks.
